A NOVEL TREATMENT APPROACH TO SEXSOMNIA: COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY

TOPIC: Sleep Disorders TYPE: Medical Student/Resident Case Reports INTRODUCTION: Sexosmnia is a type of parasomnia, disorder abnormal sleeping behavior. During non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep patients with sexsomnia are involved in sexual acts. Patients suffering from have also been implicated legal ramifications their illness due to unwanted and unsolicited approaches towards partners. Numerous treatment modalities reported the literature for sexsomnia, here we present case patient that was treated cognitive behavioral therapy. CASE PRESENTATION: A 28 years old newlywed gentleman who referred his primary care physician pulmonologist management asthma. At visit he complained behavior while sleeping, including sexually fondling wife, inappropriately climbing on wife at night sleeping. On further evaluation diagnosed obstructive central apnea prescribed CPAP, which initially helped symptoms however almost three weeks into consistently using CPAP started masturbating asleep. He trialed clonazepam escitalopram no improvements symptoms. After months struggling psychologist therapy alleviate DISCUSSION: Parasomnia category disorders occur falling asleep, transitioning through stages, or even waking up (1).
